What is Clay Poker Chips?

Clay poker chips remain the top choice for poker players due to their unique sound and feel, enhancing the overall gaming experience. Once you’ve played with clay chips, anything else feels subpar.

These chips are crafted from a blend of clay/composite material, with the composite (plastic/pvc) aspect reinforcing the chip’s durability. Clay poker chips come in a wide weight range, from a light 10 grams all the way up to a heavy-duty 15 grams. Majority of casinos and card rooms prefer 10-gram chips. These clay poker chips are available in sets ranging from 200 to 1000 chips or in bundles of 25 chips, though set availability may vary depending on the chip style.

Clay chips are known to exhibit better stackability compared to their composite counterparts due to their less slippery nature. Chips adorned with graphics incorporate a label inlay, embedded into the chip’s face, different from ceramic poker chips where the graphics are a part of the chip itself. Interestingly, all clay poker chips contain a certain degree of composite materials. The composite materials contribute to the chip’s strength. Purely clay chips would crack easily due to brittleness.

While even our high-end casino-grade poker chips, with a higher clay percentage, could be split in half if you attempted. Generally, clay chips with a higher price tag are made with a larger percentage of clay, increasing their manufacturing complexity. Contrary to popular belief, weight isn’t an indicator of quality. In fact, our finest quality chips are the 10-gram ones. Weight selection is purely based on personal preference, with our heaviest 13.5 & 14-gram clay poker chips being the fan favorites. All clay chips that weigh over 11.5 grams have a metal insert to provide them with their weight, with heavier weights resulting in heavier chips. Lastly, all our clay poker chips are either 39mm or 40mm in diameter. Most of them also share a similar thickness.
